Wexford Festival Opera shares the two formidable accolades of being both Ireland’s leading cultural event as well as being one of the World’s leading and most respected opera festival’s and the third most popular destination in the World for opera lovers according to the authoritative Frommers Guide.

If Wexford could be summed up in one word it would be ‘Discovery’: providing both a unique stage for audiences from both sides of the Atlantic and further afield to discover rare and infrequently performed operatic gems to the highest possible performance and production standards, and an invaluable opportunity to discover new and emerging performing talent from across the globe, reinforcing each year Wexford’s reputation for  acting as a significant and highly regarded platform and spring-board for the major international opera stars of tomorrow.

Wexford’s enviable reputation for platforming emerging international talent is illustrated by some of the major opera starts of today who first performed in Wexford, such as Juan Diego Florez, Josef Calleja, and Sergei Lieferkus. Wexford is an important career engagement for emerging American operatic talent also, with Angela Meade, Barbara Quintiliani, and Bryan Hymel, amongst other now leading international opera stars from the US who proudly credit Wexford in their increasingly impressive biogs. And it continues with for example emerging US performer Brian Mulligan set to further his career by performing in Wexford this year.

Wexford as a marquee event whose origins are truly Irish but the provenance of its audiences and performing and creative talent are highly international is in that spirit now reaching out, to further develop its existing US links, to grow its North American community of engaged advocates and ambassadors who support the unique work of huge artistic importance which Wexford undertakes annually against all the odds. All contributions to the American Friends of Wexford Opera and its inaugural Dinner Gala will go directly to enable Wexford produce and present one of its three main stage opera’s this season to capacity international audiences in the hugely impressive Wexford Opera House – the last major cultural infrastructural development in Ireland since its recent economic decline and as Ireland’s only purpose-built Opera House acts as a testament to the determination, commitment and ingenuity of Wexford to constantly  evolve and innovate.

Support us and join us in this unique and hugely rewarding journey of discovery.
