Green Business Initiative Saves Wexford Businesses â¬370,000
A green business initiative, Greening Wexford Festival Opera, launched in 2010 saved 33 Wexford businesses an estimated €370,000 in 12 months. The savings were made by auditing and readjusting energy and water consumption, and through reducing waste in the participating businesses.
Following the success of last year’s programme, the Greening Wexford Festival Opera initiative will again be launched on Wednesday, 7th September at 10.30 am in Greenacres, North Main Street. During the launch a report detailing the success stories of last year will also be available and should be of interest to any business looking to cut operational costs.
Open to all business sectors to attend, the launch event will identify steps business owners/managers can implement to help achieve significant cost savings whilst protecting the environment.
Businesses that wish to participate will follow a Green Aware Programme comprised of 10 steps which will help focus environmental efforts eventually leading to recognised certification. The event, lasting until approximately 1pm, is free.
Commenting on the initiative Eamonn Carroll, Business Development Manager, Wexford Festival Opera said, “We are delighted with the success of last year’s programme and this year we are encouraging new hospitality and non hospitality businesses to sign up.”
“Green business is profitable business and this is clearly demonstrated in the report findings. Energy and waste costs are on the increase and this programme provides a clear roadmap to manage and reduce these costs to businesses. We anticipate high demand for the 2011 programme and to see more Wexford businesses interested in the green programme”, Mr. Carroll concluded.
The green initiative developed by Wexford Festival Opera and Green Hospitality Award and supported by the Environmental Protection Agency’s National Waste Prevention Programme, Econcertive and Wexford Chamber is designed to encourage Wexford businesses to foster a culture of environmental awareness and how it can lead to real cost savings.
