Commenting on his untimely death, Peter Scallan, Chairman, Wexford Festival Trust said, “John O’Connor served as a Director of Wexford Festival Trust for over twenty years and led the organisation as Chairman from 1992 to 1997. It is therefore with great sadness and regret that I learn of his death earlier today. During John’s term as Chairman it was his composure, his financial acumen, his perseverance and above all his sense of fun that marked him out as an exceptional leader. Under his guidance, Wexford Festival Opera thrived in the mid 1990s. John was also a person of vision and was key in initiating the process that led to the building of Wexford Opera House. These are traits that defined him and carried him through his recent illness.  On behalf of the board and all at Wexford Festival Opera, I wish to extend our condolences to his wife Vonnie and to their family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.”
