A lottery draw took place as singers were preparing for their first official day of rehearsal. US Baritone, Wayne Tigges, who sings the coveted role of ‘Willy Wonka’, took a moment to assist Eoin Reynolds, Broker Manager of Zurich, Wexford, to select the 5 Co. Wexford Primary Schools that will participate in the competition. The lucky participants are Horeswood NS, Our Lady’s Island NS, The Faythe NS, CBS Primary, Wexford and Gaelscoil Moshíológ, Gorey.
The Golden Ticket tells the story of Charlie Bucket, the boy hero, who lives in poverty with his aged and infirm grandparents and dreams of winning one of five golden tickets that Willy Wonka, the confectionary wizard, has hidden in his chocolate bars. When Charlie wins one of the coveted ‘Golden Tickets’, he gets to choose one special person to take with him. Charlie instantly chooses his Grandpa Joe who is Charlie’s great inspiration. Taking inspiration from their close relationship, students from the 4th, 5th & 6th classes of the 5 selected schools, will write a short essay about what special person they would take with them if they won a ‘Golden Ticket’. 1 winner from each school will be selected to receive a pair of tickets (5 pair in total) to the European Premiere performance of The Golden Ticket on Sunday, October 17. Felicity Dahl, Roald Dahl’s widow and one of the co-commissioners of The Golden Ticket, will also be in attendance.
