Wexford Festival Opera has already reached 75% of ticket sales for 60th anniversary Festival
With still 8 weeks to go until opening night, Wexford Festival Opera is delighted to announce that ticket sales have exceeded 75% capacity.
Commenting on the figures, Chief Executive of Wexford Festival Opera, David McLoughlin said, “While greatly encouraged by the positive reaction to this year’s programme, and the strong demand from our loyal audiences for tickets, we are more dependent than ever on box office receipts. The opportunity this year for the public to enjoy the unique experience of Irish-produced main stage opera is dwindling as ticket sales get ever closer to full capacity.”
This year the 60th Wexford Festival will present over 50 daytime and evening events over the course of 16 days. The 3 mainstage operas in the programme are:
Maria, a magnificent composition by the Polish composer Roman Statkowski. This major cultural event, coinciding with Poland’s EU Presidency, is of great international significance. This highly acclaimed opera has rarely been performed since its world premiere in Warsaw in 1906 and has never been performed outside Poland. It is also one of the few Polish operas ever to have been performed in Ireland.
La Cour de Célimène, an opéra comique, by the composer of Mignon and Hamlet, Ambroise Thomas, was immensely successful in its day, but has now fallen by the wayside. Wexford’s production will be the first staged performance since 1855.
Gaetano Donizetti’s 1839 melodrama, Gianni di Parigi.
With many performances of the above productions now booked out, only limited availability remains. Those interested are advised to book now to avoid disappointment.
Running alongside these are shortworks, recitals, the gala concert and many daytime events.
