Wexford Festival Opera Nominated for Major International Opera Award
The inaugural International Opera Awards ceremony will be held at the Hilton Hotel in London on 22 April 2013, where prizes will be awarded in twenty-two categories, covering many aspects of opera production and performance.
The awards scheme is run under the auspices of the Opera Awards Foundation (http://www.operaawards.org), which is supported by Opera magazine and was conceived by London businessman and opera lover, Harry Hyman and John Allison, the editor of Opera magazine. It is described as being ‘the first truly international set of prizes in the operatic world’ and the organisers hope that it will become an annual event, The Operas.

Director, DVD, Festival Opera, Lifetime Achievement Award, Lighting Designer, Newcomer (conductor or director), New Production, Opera Company, Philanthropist/Sponsor, Rediscovered Work, Set Designer, Website, World Premiere, Female Singer, Male Singer, Young Singer.
In the category for the best ‘Festival Opera’, the five nominations are Wexford, Aix-en-Provence, Garsington, Salzburg and Santa Fe.
