A new competition for Stage Directors to select the best artistic concepts for two pocket operas staged in 2023 is announced.
Wexford Festival Opera is announcing a competition for Stage Directors with the aim of selecting the best artistic concepts for two pocket operas which will be staged at the 2023 Wexford Festival Opera.
The Pocket Operas are an integral part of the Festival's daytime events, and they are staged in smaller venues like the Jerome Hynes Theatre and the Wexford Arts Centre. These productions are reduced versions of the original scores, with piano accompaniment and are cast from the young singers who make up the Wexford Festival Opera Chorus.
Another competition for Designers will determine the set and costume design using the successful candidate's concept.
The productions will be:
- La Fille du régiment by Gaetano Donizetti
- Suor Angelica by Giacomo Puccini
The productions will be reduced to 90 minutes maximum eliminating almost all the chorus parts. The cuts will be decided in collaboration with the Musical Director.
For full details on the requirements, duration, deadlines and how to apply, please refer to the Call for Pocket Opera Director application document here.
* Please note that completed applications must be sent by 1 December 2022.
