David Maguire was awarded the 2021 Ecclesiastical/ Wexford Festival Opera Volunteer of the Year Award at the opening of this year’s Wexford Festival Opera after a public vote by fellow volunteers, board and staff of the Festival. A long-time volunteer and supporter of Wexford Festival Opera, David is extremely popular among all Festival staff and volunteers, as well as the wider Wexford community.

Wexford Festival Opera will take to the town again this year with a series of daily Pop-Up Performances. These surprise free multidisciplinary performances will feature music, drama, singing and dance and will be performed in various shops and businesses around Wexford town. A map can be picked at box office in The National Opera House, which will show the time and location of these daily events, but what they will see will remain a surprise! The nature of these events means they can be enjoyed by festival-goers, the local community, and the general passer-by!
Wexford Festival Opera, RTÉ and ARTE have joined forces once again to bring a taste of Wexford to audiences at home, wherever that may be. The 70th Wexford Festival Opera ‘Shakespeare in the Heart’ will run from 19 – 31 October. From the main stage operas, to concerts, to pop-up events and lectures, the festival will feature artists from across the world and showcase some of the most exciting young Irish talent.
