Nominations open for the 2019 Wexford Festival Opera ‘Volunteer of the Year’ Award

As volunteers prepare for the 68th Wexford Festival Opera which opens in just over three weeks, nominations opened today for the Ecclesiastical/Wexford Festival Opera Volunteer of the Year Award.

Wexford Festival Opera was founded and initially run entirely as a voluntary organisation and volunteerism remains fundamental to its continued success. This award seeks to recognise and highlight the extraordinary contribution and initiative of Wexford Festival Opera Volunteers. The 300 plus volunteers live locally, nationally and even internationally, and encompass all ages, backgrounds and professions. They generously contribute their time and energy to various aspects of the Festival including front-of-house, bars, cloakroom, patron care, backstage, wardrobe, and artist transportation amongst many.

The award presentation will take place on the stage of the National Opera House on Friday, 18 October, prior to the first public dress rehearsal, which is attended by the volunteers of the Festival.

Anyone can nominate a Wexford Festival Opera Volunteer and we especially encourage our patrons to participate in the nominations.   Nominees must have demonstrated an outstanding contribution to Wexford Festival Opera.  This could have been either by their volunteering during the Festival itself or at any time throughout the year to enhance, promote, fundraise for and/or develop Wexford Festival Opera as an organisation and as an event.

Nominating is quick and easy by clicking on the link: http://www.wexfordopera.com/about-us/volunteer-award. Nomination forms can also be picked up from the box-office at the National Opera House. The closing date for the submission of online and written nominations is Friday, 11 October.

Ecclesiastical Insurance, proud sponsor of the award, is Ireland’s leading specialist insurance company serving the education, faith, heritage and charity sectors, providing insurance and services for those who care about their communities and the environment in which they live and work. Ecclesiastical Insurance is a company that donates a significant proportion of its profits to charity, so it is fitting that it is associated with the award.

The 68th Wexford Festival Opera will run for 13 consecutive days beginning Tuesday, 22 October and runs until Sunday, 3 November 2019.  Tickets can be purchased online 24/7 at www.wexfordopera.com, in person at the National Opera House or by calling the box-office on +353 (0) 53 912 2144 or 1-850-4-OPERA Monday-Saturday, 9.30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

The 68th Wexford Festival Opera is supported by grants from the Arts Council, Wexford County Council and Fáilte Ireland/Ireland’s Ancient East.
