This year’s Festival Forum features a fascinating Q&A with renowned Irish theatre director, Garry Hynes, who co-founded Druid in 1975 and has worked as its Artistic Director from 1975 to 1991 and from 1995 to date. Garry will be joined in conversation by Wexford playwright, author, actor and musician, Billy Roche.

The essence of the human condition is the sense of connectedness to people and place, believes Garry Hynes. This year’s Festival Forum interview with Garry will further explore the Festival theme of 'Theatre Within Theatre'.

For almost fifty years, Druid has been at the forefront of Irish theatre, presenting groundbreaking works by established, emerging, and new writers. The company has toured the length and breadth of Ireland as well as touring internationally to the UK, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and Hong Kong.

An award-winning director, Garry has also received Honorary Doctorates from University College Dublin, University of Dublin, University of Galway and the National Council for Education Awards. She is an Honorary Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians in Ireland, and a member of the Honorary Council of the Royal Hibernian Academy (HRHA). In 2011, Garry was appointed Adjunct Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies at University of Galway.
