The Plot
Mireille tells the story of a young Provençal girl who loves Vincent, a poor basket-weaver, despite her father's opposition and the jealousy of a rival suitor, Ourrias.
Mireille defies her father and vows to meet Vincent at the chapel of the Saintes-Maries if they are separated.
Ourrias attacks Vincent and is punished by a supernatural force.
Mireille crosses the desert to reach the chapel, but collapses from exhaustion.
She dies in Vincent's arms, while a heavenly voice calls her to paradise.
