Celebrated on Sunday, 25 October, World Opera Day is a reminder of the importance of the arts in society.

Wexford Festival Opera is proud to announce its first participation in
World Opera Day!
During Act III, Celine Byrne will perform accompanied by Rosetta Cucchi at the piano.

This year, when everyone’s lives have been affected by the global pandemic, and the world’s social injustices have gained visibility and touched wider communities, the healing power of music and art is needed more than ever. Yet, restrictions on public gathering have had a devastating impact on the cultural and especially the performing arts sector.

Opera is an international language, and its stories reflect an understanding of human nature and contribute to sustaining the values of freedom and tolerance. Opera should belong to and includes all those within its community where it is made. It must embrace a diverse but connected world. World Opera Day is an occasion to underline the importance of culture in society.

This year, more than ever, we have to come together to support opera and the arts in general. The weekend culminates in a joyous, worldwide musical celebration from across the globe, offered by Opera Europa, Opera America and Opera Latinoamérica, in collaboration with Opera for Peace, with vocal performances from six continents in 4 acts and time zones.
