The Plot
Anna Bolena is a tragic opera that tells the story of Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII of England, who is accused of adultery and treason and sentenced to death. The opera focuses on the emotional turmoil of Anne, who still loves her former lover Lord Percy, and her rival Jane Seymour, who has become the king's new object of desire. The opera ends with Anne's execution, as she hallucinates seeing her former husband and lover reunited in heaven.
