The Plot
L'amico Fritz is an opera in three acts and tells the story of Fritz Kobus, a wealthy landowner who bets his friend David, a rabbi, that he will never marry.
However, he falls in love with Suzel, the daughter of one of his tenants, who brings him a bouquet of violets for his birthday. The opera follows their blossoming romance through the seasons, as they sing the famous Cherry Duet in spring and exchange rings in autumn.
David helps them overcome their shyness and social differences, and wins the bet by convincing Fritz to marry Suzel.
