This powerful adaptation of Bizet's classic, from writer Carrière, director Brook, and composer Constant, strips the story to its core: a fast-paced tragedy of obsession and jealousy, brimming with opera's most iconic melodies.

A mesmerising tale following Carmen, a fiercely independent woman who catches the attention of the young, naive soldier, Don José. When he falls for the fiery and ambitious Carmen their tragic fates are sealed. Rich with emotion and drama, it promises to leave audiences spellbound and dazzled as the tragic consequences of Don José's obsession with Carmen unfold before our very eyes.

Brook adapted the script with academy award-winning screenwriter Jean-Claude Carrière, re-examining it from a new perspective. The original score was adapted for a chamber orchestra by Marius Constant and the show premiered in Théâtre des Bouffes du Nord, Paris in November 1981.
